Introduction:
Laura Johnston established her practice in 1996 and since then has
completed a range of large-scale projects across the UK. The studio
specialises in the development of bespoke tensile glass and steel
structures and glass forms which impact on their environment through
the projection of light and colour. Innovative techniques are explored
in her collaborative approach which links the artist with architects
and engineers. Projects are undertaken for a variety of public and
commercial building environments including hospitals, airports,
shopping centres, leisure centres, offices, libraries and educational
institutions.
Many of Laura Johnston's designs incorporate the use of dichroic
glass. This material has unique optical qualities which result in
constantly shifting hues and intensity of light as the angle of
light or viewpoint changes.
